With the rise of TikTok and the sudden need to prioritize short-form video content, you may find yourself…
Hmm, how do I put this…?
FREAKING OUT? ๐คฏ๐คฏ๐คฏ
It feels like almost overnight, online businesses were expected to have this new platform mastered.
Is anyone else having literally *stress dreams* with TikTok sounds playing in your mind while you sleep?
Just me…?
๐
I’m a content strategist - what can I say? ๐
Aaaaanyway.
It’s a lot!
TO be expected to:
๐๐ป Learn a new platform
๐๐ป Jump on trends
๐๐ป Come up with original content
๐๐ป Be authentic
Oh yeah, and not to mention the sheer pressure of having to show your FACE all the time!! ๐ ๐
So for any of you who have been finding the TikTok world a little stressful lately, I've put together a little list of friendly reminders for you.
Reminders that will help you:
โ
Protect your energy
โ
Get PAID
โ
And remember your worth as an entrepreneur.
‘Cause, you’re putting too much energy into making some bomb TikTok’s.
You deserve to feel like a million bucks!
So without further ado…
Let’s dive into my top 3 tips for surviving TikTok ๐๐ป๐๐ป
More than any other app - TikTok has the most viral potential.
I mean on what other app can you get a million views while having 100 followers?
It’s completely nuts! ๐คฏ
And I think because of this, it can be easy to fall into the trap of obsessing over our views.
It often feels like everyone is posting as much content as possible in hopes that one thing will pick up steam, and get them some traction.
A lot of the time, I’m downright impressed at how much content some people can produce.
But on the other hand, sometimes I’m starting to notice that it feels like…
๐๐ป Content for content’s sake.
๐๐ป Content that lacks any real specificity or authenticity to your business.
๐๐ป Content that’s being posted ONLY to get views
So not only are you running yourself into the ground making endless amounts of content…
…But you are so hard on yourself when you aren’t getting the views you’re hoping for!
So that’s why I’m here to tell you:
โก Forget about the views โก
Focus on making content that is true to you and your business.
It’s your authenticity and consistency that will help you build a community on this platform.
Not spamming people with fifty TikToks a day and obsessing over numbers.
Take it from me - going viral is not all it’s cracked up to be. ๐ฌ ๐ฌ ๐ฌ
I’ve done a whole video about this already.
But the gist of it is:
There is actually a major dark side to going viral.
Because the more views you get?
The more trolls you get too.
๐น ๐น ๐น
And there is simply no avoiding it.
If your content gets an increasingly wide reach - it’s going to reach some of the wrong people.
And that can be hard on the old self-esteem, my friends.
Trust me…I’ve been there! ๐งก
So yeah, it’s fun to see that number climb when your TikTok starts picking up some speed.
But remember that it’s not the main goal when posting content.
And ending that relationship between your views and your self-worth is *essential* to a sustainable online presence.
You’re doing great! ๐งก
Don’t let the views get to you!
There’s this belief in the online business community that in order to build an audience you have to give, give, give.
And don’t get me wrong - I am a giving person.
I love sharing my tips, tricks, and hacks with you all! ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
But what I have to remind my own clients of all the time is this…
On the one hand, yes you have to give.
BUT you can’t keep giving away everything for free if you are not making any money.
While you want to continue to serve your community - this is a business you’re running here.
And if you don’t have the courage to sell? Well, your business is actually just an expensive ass hobby. ๐ธ ๐ธ
In order to cultivate the courage it takes to show up on TikTok and market yourself - you need to let go of guilt.
You have to stop feeling guilty for asking clients to invest in what you do.
You believe in your offers, don’t you?
Isn't that what made you get into this crazy business in the first place?
Well, what’s the hold-up, my friend?! ๐งก
Think about it this way:
Money is just another way of putting a value on energy.
And the energy it takes you to serve your clients and help them transform their lives or their business is VALUABLE.
I hear people say all the time:
“Nobody wants to watch ‘sales-y’ TikToks”
Or
“The audience on TikTok is just a bunch of teenagers. They aren’t ready to buy.”
But I am here to bust that myth. ๐๐ป๐ฅ
EVERYONE and their grandmother are on TikTok - INCLUDING your ideal client.
So don’t shoot yourself in the foot by shying away from discussing your offers on this platform.
When you market your offers on TikTok, you are helping your ideal client come across the solution to their problems.
And that solution is YOU.
So get out there!
Forget all the noise about being “too sales-y”
Your offer is worth talking about.
๐ I can’t WAIT to see it come across my FYP ๐
You can absolutely continue to give and give and give.
But I challenge you to promote the hell out of yourself to that same degree.
Because that’s the thing that will actually fuel your business, fuel your career and help you recharge so you can keep showing up for your community. โ
If you work in social media, you’ve probably grown accustomed to how quickly things change in our industry.
๐๐ป New trend
๐๐ป New features
๐๐ป Even new platforms.
And as those things change - the demands of our clients change with them.
But we’re adaptable.
We can handle it.
We can learn to serve our clients in new and exciting ways.
BUT with every new skill you learn…
Every new deliverable you tack on…
Every little bit of value you add to your clients' experience…
Make sure you are pricing your services accordingly. โ
A lot of us social media professionals have just been incorporating more video marketing into our clients' packages without even batting an eye at the price!
I get it - you are so excited about a new part of your offer that it almost doesn’t even feel like work.
But it is.
And it has value.
Here’s how I’ve gone about these shifts in my business ๐๐ป ๐๐ป
First I let my clients know that I am testing out adding a new feature to my offer.
And that if they are interested, I would love to do this work for them for free for a limited time.
But most importantly, I always let my clients know that if they like what I deliver and want me to continue this aspect of my services - that there will be a price increase to their package.
And 99% of the time, when you are clear and generous, people will be thrilled to upgrade their experience.
Remember:
A rising tide lifts all boats. โต โต โต
As your expertise and offers level up - your clients' benefits will too.
And that level-up necessitates a price increase. ๐
I know this may sound so obvious, but big changes in the social media landscape have really changed our clients’ demands.
So it’s just good to be reminded that when the work changes, so does the price.
And if you get any haters giving you a hard time for pricing your offers accordingly…you don’t wanna work with them anyway. ๐ ๐ปโ๏ธ ๐ ๐ปโ๏ธ
Anyone who is going to disrespect your time and expertise is NOT worth it.
Continue to learn new things, better yourself, and price your services accordingly.
โก You got this. โก
And if you are looking to take this TikTok talk a little further I've got just the thing. ๐๐ป
