Social media changes fast. 😰
And when you’re using it your main tool to market your business, you may find yourself feeling a *bit* frustrated.
One week a certain platform feels like the center of the universe…and the next week it feels irrelevant. 🤯
Or you finally master one feature… only for the IG overlords to release another and you need to start from scratch again.
It’s just impossible to keep up!
Let me just start by saying 👇🏻
Release yourself from the pressure of showing up consistently, in the same way, across every single social platform of all time.
It’s just not gonna happen.
It’s not realistic.
And on top of that, it’s not even going to be helpful!
What I’ve learned through my social media journey is that I have to make each platform work differently for me.
Not every app will serve my business.
I have to show up with a different intention for each app strategically.
So today I want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how I do just that. ✅ ✅ ✅
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This is not a rundown of every app that I use. Just the ones that I feel are the best to market my business.
Once you’ve got a better sense of how I leverage each of my fave social media platforms, you’ll be able to see that marketing your business through social media is about working smarter, not harder. 🤓
Let’s start with Instagram as it’s my main social media platform within my marketing strategy.
So naturally - I know my way around the ‘gram pretty well. 💁🏻♀️💁🏻♀️
And while my Instagram audience isn’t my biggest audience, it is the platform I use to hit a BUNCH of different business goals.
I use it for:
✅ Community building
✅ Sales
✅ Speaking Engagement bookings
✅ Education
But most importantly, I use it to cultivate an email list of folks who get gradually get closer and closer to buying from me.
Why is it so effective for this goal? 🤔
Because my Instagram profile is one of the main drivers of traffic to my website. And my website is where you can join my email list AND get a more in-depth look at what I have to offer.
Another one of favorite things about my Instagram account is the way I use it to connect on a deeper level with my audience.
I’m not gonna lie - I have my DMs turned off on my other social channels.
But Instagram?
I show up there and answer client questions as much as I can. 🧡 🧡
The decision to keep my DMs on only for Instagram was a strategic and intentional one.
I want my Instagram platform to be a place where I am focused on serving my community through quality content and conversation.
Even though people love to hate on Instagram - I love to L🧡VE Instagram.
Because through all the new platforms, new features, new trends Instagram has remained one of the most versatile and effective ways to market my business. ⚡ ⚡ ⚡
Next up we’ve got the current star of the social media show - Tik Tok. ⭐
TikTok is the platform where I have my biggest audience.
However, I don’t use it as my primary marketing channel for my offers.
Although it’s a very effective platform to do so…especially if you’re selling a physical product.
So if that’s you, get out there and sell, my friend! 💰 💰 💰
But I’ve chosen to use the platform a little differently.
I’ve realized that my audience on TikTok is quite a bit younger and earlier in their social media journey compared to the audience I have on Instagram.
The reality is, they are not quite in the purchasing age range.
But that doesn’t mean that TikTok is a useless platform for me!
In fact - it’s the total opposite.
I use my TikTok to educate and build brand awareness for my audience.
And once I’ve given some high-quality content, I can ask my audience;
“Looking for more? 👀👀”
Then, I point them in the direction of my Youtube channel where I teach highly valuable content marketing strategies that you need to know.
My TikTok journey has been such a good reminder that not every platform is about sales.
BUT - every platform has an important purpose.
And that is not to say that I don't make money on TikTok. 🙅🏻♀️
I actually find TikTok a great platform for brand collaborations…especially because I have such a large audience there.
And while I don’t make a significant amount from the TikTok Creator Fund directly, having brand partnerships on TikTok is just another way to diversify my income streams. ⚡ ⚡ ⚡
When it comes to Youtube, my channel serves two main purposes in the marketing of my business.
First of all, it helps me build brand authority.
YouTube is where I produce long-form content that dives into more complex topics than I could ever teach on TikTok, Reels or in an Instagram post.
It’s the place where my audience can come and watch my videos and see that:
“Yep, she’s an expert on this stuff…she can literally talk about it for HOURS! 🤩 🤩 🤩”
YouTube is the best platform for me to position myself as a thought leader and educator.
The second goal I use YouTube for is booking speaking engagements.
At the start of this year, I made it a goal to distinguish myself as a speaker. 🎤 🎤
I just realized that it’s one of the many things I love to do - and not to mention I think I’m pretty good at it too!
If you want to see for yourself check out my channel and give me a follow if you are so inclined
😉
But now that I’ve built a YouTube platform, I can direct people towards my videos if they are looking for a speaker for their events.
And through my videos, they can see my personality, my charisma, and my expertise in action. ⚡ ⚡ ⚡
So yes, I get a few sales through Youtube and I always throw in a call to action at the end of my videos.
But - my main goal on there is to show that I know my shit! ✅
I hope this post gave you a behind-the-scenes look and a better sense of the way I use my favorite platforms.
Remember, every platform serves your business differently.
👉🏻 Some platforms are better for sales.
👉🏻 Some for driving website traffic.
👉🏻 Some for educating and nurturing your community.
And once you realize which platform can help you reach what goals, you can be strategic about how you use your content creation energy.
Running a business is a LOT of work!
And you’ve got to be careful not to spread yourself too thin by trying to show up on every platform, in the same way, all the time.
You’re gonna burn yourself out, my friend! 🧡
As much as I’m all about achieving your business goals by leveraging highly effective social media content strategies - I never EVER want you to put your business, before your wellness. 🙅🏻♀️
I’ve actually done a few different videos about this, but business owner burnout is real.
